Cardiac arrest causes the heart to cease pumping blood. A human brain can survive for only five minutes without oxygen before it becomes permanently damaged. CPR can deliver a small amount of blood to the heart, which keeps body and brain function going until defibrillation can take place. Thus, CPR can provide the means to keep a person alive long enough to receive professional medical attention.

Performing CPR properly can make the difference between life and death.

massive heart attack
drug overdoses.

There are some jobs that require CPR Certification:

doctors,
nurses,
licensed physical therapists,
chiropractors,
dentists and
other health professionals.
